Bone Block Harvesting VR
tsukat engineers, in partnership with a dental clinic, designed a VR training experience that promotes safe skill development for periodontists, using bone block harvesting as an example procedure. The training begins in a virtual dental office, where the user interacts with 3D models of a patient and surgical instruments. The procedure unfolds step-by-step, starting with an anesthetic injection and progressing through the selection of tools like the scalpel, tweezers, and needle holder using hand-tracking technology.
This VR training offers two modes:
- a guided session with instructions and voiceovers
- a solo mode that allows independent practice and skill testing
Users can interact with two anatomical jaw models — a standard realistic size and an enlarged version designed for intricate tasks like screw placement and tissue manipulation.
Our Unity and 3D experts ensured the VR solution boasts high-fidelity graphics that create a realistic environment, keeping users focused on procedural details. This approach allows periodontists to refine their techniques safely in a controlled environment, building the confidence and precision needed for smoother transitions to real-life surgeries without risking patient exposure. For improved result tracking, VR training can be enhanced with post-session performance analytics and visual elements that highlight user achievements.
